THE SHORT VERSION

A useful starting point.

  • Check the official visitor hours and special notices.
  • Keep the visit quiet and follow entrance instructions.
  • Leave nearby stops optional.
01

Read the official visitor information

The Ashram’s official FAQ currently gives general main-building visiting hours as 8:00–11:30 am and 2:00–6:00 pm. Other times and some activities require a pass. Check official notices for special days and do not assume general entry covers every area.

Bureau Central is the Ashram’s visitor information centre. Use its guidance for introductions, passes and access questions. A third-party itinerary or hotel booking is not permission to enter a restricted space.

02

Plan the route from Rue Suffren

Start from Grand Hotel D’Europe at 28, Rue Suffren and use the main Ashram destination in a current map. Ask reception to check the entrance and route if you are unfamiliar with the area. Choose walking or transport according to your comfort, weather and mobility.

Allow time for crossings, shade breaks and a possible queue. This guide does not promise a timed walk or a step-free route. If standing, uneven surfaces or steps are difficult, ask the Ashram about arrangements before leaving.

03

Make quiet the centre of the visit

Silence your phone and follow the instructions given at the entrance. Ask about footwear, bags and photography before proceeding, and avoid photographing people in contemplation. Respectful clothing and a small amount of luggage make the visit easier to manage.

Choose a short, attentive visit instead of rushing through. With children, explain the quiet setting and confirm any applicable entry requirements directly. If the visit does not suit someone in the group, agree a comfortable alternative.

04

Leave nearby stops optional

Afterwards, consider a bookshop, a pause in town or a separate waterfront walk if conditions suit. Check opening days if adding a museum. Keep meals and rest in the plan instead of filling every hour with another stop.

Guests interested in the Mother’s connection with the hotel can read the separate historical account on this website. It offers context for the hotel’s Rue Suffren address and does not imply affiliation between the hotel and the Ashram.

05

Take a simple plan with you

Before departure, check the official visiting window, save the destination and agree how you will return. Obtain any required pass through the appropriate official channel. Leave enough time to arrive before the end of the session.

If you also plan Auroville, read our separate Matrimandir guide: access arrangements differ. Ask the hotel for practical transport assistance, while relying on the Ashram itself for permission and visitor rules.
